A Masterpiece of Musical Literature Inspired by Childhood

The Nursery is one of the great masterpieces of all musical literature inspired by childhood (although it is not the only one). To give an idea of the importance of this piece, suffice it to quote what the French composer C. Debussy says about it: “Nobody has spoken to that which is best in us with such tenderness and depth [as Mussorgsky]. Never before has such a refined sensibility expressed itself with such simple means [without] stultifying rules or artificialities.”
