Paola Ávila

Biography

Paola Ávila is an orchestral and choral conductor passionate about education and social transformation through music. Ávila teaches Theory at the Fundación Universitaria Juan N Corpas and in the Department of Music at the Universidad de los Andes.

She won the Fellowship in Orchestral Conducting with Chicago Sinfonietta during the 2018-2019 season. Ávila also earned the Conducting Fellow with the Miami Symphony Orchestra and Lead Conductor in OrchKids, an educational program of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, USA.

She received her Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting from Peabody Conservatory – Johns Hopkins University, under the tutelage of Marin Alsop. Ávila worked with conductors Paavo Järvi, Neeme Järvi, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Cristi Macelaru and Markus Stenz, among others.  

She currently serves as the conductor of the Women’s Philharmonic Orchestra and principal conductor of the Cartagena Symphony Orchestra.
