Biography

Saint Petersburg Soprano Julia Muzychenko who was born in 1994 is a rising star who is currently enjoying a busy career both on the opera and concert stage. Most notably, she is the recent 2nd Prize Winner and a Role Prize Winner from the International Lithuanian Music Competition for Singers Virgilijus Noreika. This season, she returns to the Dresden Semperoper for Musetta (La Boheme), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), and Frasquita (Carmen). Additionally, she was featured as Nanetta in Falstaff on a DVD recording for the Opera National de Montpellier. Last season, she joined the Dresden Semperoper as a Junges Ensemble member, where her roles included Musetta (La Boheme), Olympia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Sandmännchen/ Taumännchen (Hänsel und Gretel), and Esmeralda (The Bartered Bride). On the concert stage, she sang a solo recital at Shostakovich Hall in Saint Petersburg, and was a featured soloist on the Advent Konzert in Dresden’s Frauenkirche (which will be televised on ZDF).
Ms. Muzychenko was also selected to be a soloist at the famed SemperOpernball 2020.

The 2020-2021 season Ms. Muzychenko will also continue her work as an Junges Ensemble member at the Dresden Semperoper, where she will sing the roles of Musetta (La Boheme), Frasquita (Carmen), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Voce del Cielo (Don Carlos), and Das Fräulein (Die Gespenstersonate). Additionally, she will sing a concert “GALA Konzert- Hommage an Maria Callas” at the Alte Oper Frankfurt with Opera Classica Europa.

In past seasons, Ms. Muzychenko has appeared as Violetta Valery (La Traviata) at the Verdi Festival in Bussetto, Teatro Comunale Bolzano, and Opera de Tenerife. She has also sung Norina (Don Pasquale) at the Opera National de Montepellier, and Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus) at the Hermitage Theater in Saint Petersburg. In 2015, Ms. Muzychenko made her debut at the Mariinsky Theater in the title role of Cinderella in “The True Story of Cinderella”, a modern opera by composer V. Tarnopolsky.

Ms. Muzychenko has completed her training as a member of the Bolshoi Theater’s Young Artist Program, and Houston Grand Opera’s Vocal Academy. She earned her Masters degree in vocal performance from the Saint Petersburg Conservatory.

Ms. Muzychenko has had several competition wins, including the ‘Meistersinger von Nürnberg’Competition (1st place and audience prize), 55’Concorso Internazionale Voci Verdiane città di Bussetto(prize winer), International Competition ‘Opera de Tenerife’ (1st place and audience prize), Crescendo International Music Competition in Carnegie Hall (1st place), Sergei Rachmaninov International Vocal Competition (1st place), Zinka Milanov Competition (2nd place and audience prize), Eva Marton Competition (3rd place), Competizione dell’Opera (3rd place and audience prize), Prize Winer 70’Concorso ASLIKO per Giovani cantanti Lirici D’EUROPA.
